Wigan manager Sean Maloney wants to sign West Brom defender Martin Kelly
Newly-appointed Wigan manager Sean Maloney reportedly wants to sign West Brom defender Martin Kelly on loan this month.
According to the Sun journalist Alan Nixon on 28 January, he has fallen out of favour at the Hawthorns after the departure of Steve Bruce.
Maloney has just taken charge of the Latics and has wasted no time in asking the club to prioritise a move for the former Liverpool player.

Nixon wrote, “Wigan boss Shaun Maloney wants to make versatile defender Martin Kelly from West Brom on loan.
“Maloney has taken charge of Latics and immediately teed up a deal for the former Liverpool and England player.
“Kelly can play centre half or left back and would be an asset to the Championship strugglers. He has fallen out of favour since Steve Bruce left the Baggies.”
Make it permanent
It’s pretty evident that Carlos Corberan doesn’t rate Kelly and it makes sense to make this loan move a permanent one with an obligation to buy.
Wigan need help to bolster their defence and the Baggies need the 32-year-old off their payroll so it makes complete sense to do this.
He’s played just five Championship games this season, with his last appearance coming in December when he just played four minutes at the end of the game against Sunderland.

In the recent FA Cup clash against Chesterfield too, he wasn’t particularly impressive and the club must look to part ways with him completely.
Hopefully, the Baggies are also thinking about incomings as this squad needs a few more signings to finish in the play-off positions.
There’s not long left in the window and the club still do not seem to be closing in on a first-team signing which is worrying, to say the least.
In other West Brom news, Guochuan Lai wants to sell the club with the takeover now dependent on one condition.
