West Brom transfer pursuit of Nottingham Forest takes fresh twist amid Newcastle, Fulham interest in Sander Berge
West Brom move for Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien now appears to be unlikely amid Newcastle and Fulham’s interest in Sander Berge.
According to Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas, the Sheffield United midfielder could be Premier League bound which would mean that the Blades make O’Brien their top target.
He is also on the radar of the Baggies, but will perhaps miss out on him and thus look at Fulham’s Nathaniel Chalobah as a backup.
Via Twitter, Thomas wrote, “SheffieldUnited have now come in for Lewis O’Brien as a potential replacement for Sander Berge, who is the subject of interest from #Newcastle and #FulhamFC. Means #WBA move for O’Brien under threat, so they’re also looking at #FFC’s Chalobah.”
Twists and turns
These things happen a lot in the business end of window and unfortunately, the Baggies are the ones to suffer this time around.
O’Brien looked like a pretty nailed on signing, given his previous links with Carlos Corberan, but as things stand, is not looking too good.
He could have his preference and straight out reject a move to Sheffield United, but they’re in a better position to secure promotion.

While the Baggies have recently battled relegation trouble, the Blades have been in the top two for the longest time.
Given their big lead from the rest of the chasing party, it’ll be a big surprise if they do not bounce straight back up into the Premier League.
It will be interesting to see how this transpires but the Baggies cannot put all their eggs in one basket and need to keep other options handy as well.
