Blackburn Rovers make late transfer swoop for West Brom target and Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien

Blackburn Rovers are reportedly making a late push for West Brom and Sheffield United target Lewis O’Brien, who could leave on loan from Nottingham Forest.

According to Sun journalist Alan Nixon, they’re making a renewed bid and take advantage of the Baggies and Blades’ inability to get that deal over the line.

West Brom are keen on bringing in a central midfielder ahead of the 11pm deadline.

Via Patreon, Nixon wrote on 31 January, “Blackburn Rovers are making a renewed bid to sign midfielder Lewis O’Brien on loan from Nottingham Forest.

“Rovers hope to take advantage of rivals West Brom and Sheffield United failing to come up with a package at this point.

“Baggies have yet to commit to those terms while Blades need to move out Sander Berge to create the vacancy and also lead to their EFL embargo being lifted.”

Move on

The Baggies are seemingly close to signing Nathaniel Chalobah on deadline day from Fulham and that should be that in terms of midfielders.

O’Brien is undoubtedly the better player and one who’s previously worked with Carlos Corberan, but he’s not easily gettable on the last day of the window.

Forest are also asking for a lot of money which should put the Baggies out of contention to secure his services.

Sheffield United could end up making a move for him to replace Sander Berge and it makes more sense for them to shell out crazy amounts of cash.

The Baggies should turn to other areas of the pitch to strengthen as there are still some weaknesses in the squad.

It remains to be seen what they end up doing after announcing Chalobah as there’s a very good chance to make the play-offs this season.
