Kenneth Zohore to undergo OB medical as West Brom agree contract termination

West Brom striker Kenneth Zohore has had his contract at The Hawthorns terminated and is now close to completing a move to Danish club Odense Boldklub, with the player set to undergo a medical, according to Danish media outlet BT.

The 29-year-old was into the last six months of his contract at the West Midlands club, and both parties were in talks to cut short his contract and terminate it [Darren Witcoop, 10 January].

Zohore has been a bit-part player throughout his time at West Brom, making just 23 appearances for the club, scoring five goals and registering 1 assist ever since his move in 2019.

According to Danish journalist Thomas Dahlslykke [31 January], the striker has been offered a loan deal until the end of the season, with the club giving him the opportunity to impress before they assess the situation again in the summer.

He wrote: “Zohore to OB in six months gives both parties the opportunity to easily move on to the summer if things do not harmonize, conversely during the spring they can let the love grow and extend the agreement.”

And now according to Danish media outlet BT, the striker looks set to complete his deadline-day move with the player set to undergo medical tests with a view to completing a loan deal till the end of the season.

Had to let him go

With Carlos Corberan utilising both Daryl Dike, Karlan Grant and Brandon Thomas-Asante as his two preferred options up front, it was clear Zohore did not have a role to play at the club.

It was no use the Baggies keeping a player in the last few months of his contract to rot on the bench, so they had to let him go early.

West Brom

The £8m used to bring the Danish striker to the Hawthorns has clearly been a waste of money with the forward struggling to stake a claim as the club’s leading forward.

He showed brief glimpses under Slaven Bilic’s tenure but has since failed to even be acknowledged by the Croatian’s three successors at the club.

Dike, Thomas-Asante and Grant are enough quality to fire the Baggies to promotion, Zohore clearly wasn’t needed.
