Swansea City beat Stoke City in race to sign West Brom forward Karlan Grant on loan

Swansea City have beaten Stoke City to the signing of Karlan Grant as the West Brom striker closes in on his exit from The Hawthorns, according to Darren Witcoop.

The Athletic’s Stuart James revealed (via Twitter, 31 January) that the Swans were set to sign the 25-year-old forward on loan.

Witcoop, who writes for The Sunday Mirror has claimed Stoke were also keen on the striker who has fallen out of favour in the West Midlands (Twitter, 31 January).

Makes sense

Grant has endured a tough 2022/23 season and it makes sense for him to move on. This is the second time Carlos Corberan has parted ways with the 25-year-old. It begs the question of whether there’s potentially a personal issue between the pair.

Regardless, a move away from The Hawthorns makes sense for Grant. He’s not been a prolific goal threat this season and has looked shot for confidence at times.

West Brom

With Daryl Dike and Brandon Thomas-Asante in good form, his game time could well take a hit. Corberan seems content with his options and if it means one more player coming through the door before the deadline then it would’ve been a good move.

It’s been a busy end to the window for the Baggies – and the squad is now in good shape to make a real push for the playoffs. There’s a good blend of youth and experience and excellent depth for the West Brom boss to call upon.
