West Brom fans make Guochuan Lai chants during 1-0 win v Coventry
West Brom fans staged protests in the stands during their 1-0 win against Coventry City on Friday (3 February) in the Championship, according to Jonny Drury.
The Express and Star journalist shared on Twitter that the Baggies fans sang in a loud voice – “if you want Lai out stand up”, directing towards their absent owner, Guochuan Lai.
Grady Diangana scored the only goal of the match in the first half as the Baggies returned to winning ways, and kept their promotion hopes truly alive.
“Loud as everyone sings ‘if you want Lai out stand up’,” wrote Drury on Twitter.
Protest
The Baggies fans are disgusted with their owner, Lai, who doesn’t bother to communicate with the fans. He doesn’t even visit the Hawthorns, and the club has been poorly run by him.
What has been really worrying is that he keeps on failing the deadline for repayment of loans. The club is now being forced to take additional loans to even run the day-to-day cost.

Ron Gourlay said to The Athletic [19 January] that he keeps reminding Lai to make the payments but he has turned a deaf ear to it. Lai should sell the club at some point in the future, and probably he will get a better value if the Baggies secure promotion to the Premier League.
On the pitch, Carlos Corberan continues to weave his magic, as the Baggies secured another precious three points. New signing Marc Albrighton was superb during the game, while Daryl Dike and Diangana have been equally brilliant.
It was an end-to-end thrilling game, and both sides created some fantastic opportunities. With this victory, the Baggies have now moved to fifth in the Championship table, only one point behind third-placed Middlesbrough.
In other West Brom news, a big money blow derailed another January deal that looked like getting done.
