West Brom goalkeeper Alex Palmer sends message after injury blow

West Brom goalkeeper Alex Palmer has shared on Instagram that he is “gutted” at the moment after picking up an injury at such an “important” point of the season.

Carlos Corberan confirmed [3 February, Birmingham Mail] that Palmer will be out of action for at least six weeks. He has impressed since October and became the first-choice keeper, but picked up an injury in training on Thursday [2 February].

The 25-year-old says it is another “test to overcome”, but clearly he is very sad about his injury. In football, it happens all the time, and he has to accept it.

“Gutted with the injury at such an important time of the season, but it’s another test to overcome! Thank you for all the messages,” wrote Palmer on Instagram.

Blow

It is a big blow for the Baggies. Palmer has been playing extremely well for the club and Corberan highlighted that he was one of the players who helped him get points during the tough times.

However, injuries are part of the game, and the Baggies can do nothing. We have to hope that Palmer recovers soon, and gets back to the squad at the earliest.

David Button, who Palmer replaced in the first place towards the end of Steve Bruce’s reign, featured in the previous game against Coventry City.

West Brom

He kept a clean sheet and received support from his teammates. He needs confidence but can be a reliable deputy.

Botton came under heavy criticism from quarters of the fanbase this season, and the door has opened for him to silence his critics.

He should not only look to improve his own game but should try to win over the fans as well. The Baggies will face Birmingham in their next Championship game on 10 February.
