West Brom braced for uncomfortable period amid Leeds United interest in Carlos Corberan

West Brom are reportedly going to be undergoing an uncomfortable period amid Leeds United interest in Carlos Corberan.

The Premier League outfit sacked Jesse Marsch on Monday, 6 February, and are eyeing their former assistant coach to replace him.

Corberan has enjoyed a good start to life at the Hawthorns and has put the Baggies in play-off contention.

Via Twitter, Birmingham Live journalist Joe Chapman wrote, “It didn’t take long for #wba realise what they have with Corberan. He has swiftly become the club’s biggest asset by a distance. That inevitably leads to speculation – and #lufc already have a previous link with him. Uncomfortable period ahead.”

Hope he stays

The Corberan situation is akin to the one QPR faced when Michael Beale ended up moving to Rangers.

When Wolves approached him, he didn’t suddenly want to jump ship and abandon his project, but when his former club came knocking, he was out as soon as possible.

Corberan loves Leeds and by the looks of things, they love him, so it does seem like a perfect match on paper.

However, he knows that the Premier League is an unforgiving business and if he fails to keep them up, it’s going to be him looking for another job in the summer.

At the Baggies, even if he doesn’t achieve play-off qualification this season, the board are likely to keep the faith as long as the results are good and they can see progress.

It’s certainly a risk but if Corberan does have aspirations of managing in the Premier League, he should back his ability to get the Baggies there next season.

In other West Brom news, a defender may never feature for the club again after what happened recently and may even leave for free.
