West Brom: Call from Leeds United could be too hard for Carlos Corberan to resist

Carlos Corberan has emerged as a potential target for Leeds United should the club sack Jesse Marsch, with West Brom wanting to hand him a new contact, according to the Daily Mail.

The report claims Everton also held talks about Corberan becoming their new manager last week but felt he didn’t have enough top-flight experience.

Corberan already has a history in West Yorkshire with the Baggies’ head coach playing second fiddle to Argentine tactician Marcelo Bielsa at Elland Road.

West Brom

“Carlos Corberan is emerging as a potential candidate to replace Jesse Marsch should Leeds United decide to make a managerial change,” as quoted by the Daily Mail. (5 February)

“Everton considered him for their managerial position last week and held conversations about the merits of appointing the 39-year-old but ultimately decided he didn’t possess enough top-flight experience.

“However, Leeds rate Corberan highly and could reason that he knows their club well. He also has ex-Leeds coach Jorge Alarcon in his backroom team.

“Albion want to give him a new contract as Corberan continues to impress their hierarchy but a call from Leeds could prove hard to resist.”

West Brom

Vultures swarming.

The Premier League vultures are swarming The Hawthorns and licking their lips at the job that Corberan has done so far with West Brom.

Everton and now Leeds United have been linked with prizing Corberan away from the Albion in a matter of weeks, something which will continue as the season progresses.

A trip back to Elland Road may be too tough of an opportunity for Corberan to turn down, however, especially after his love affair with the club there under Bielsa.

This makes handing him a new and improved contract even more pivotal, something that he’s ultimately deserved for the job he has done so far at the club.

With financial constraints head locking the Albion at the moment though, it’s unclear how and what contract they could offer to compete with a Premier League budget.

The bright lights, glitz and glamour of the English top flight can turn one’s head with ease but hopefully, Corberan can see that West Brom could be there within months under his guidance anyway.

Corberan has never suggested that he will leave The Hawthorns any time soon and after his stint at Olympiakos he may want to avoid another top-flight role for the time being.
