West Midlands mayor joins forces with MP to battle West Brom hierarchy

West Midlands mayor Andy Street has joined forces with West Bromwich MP Nicola Richards to battle the West Brom ownership issues by sending a letter to Culture Secretary Michelle Donelan, according to the Daily Mail.

This comes after West Brom fans staged their latest protest against majority shareholder Guochuan Lai in Friday’s 1-0 win over Coventry.

On the field, Carlos Corberan’s Baggies outfit continues to impress but off it, concerns about the club’s finances and the future under Lai threaten to wreak havoc.

Strong move.

Raising the issues of concerns surrounding Lai in Parliament will only help in the cause to correct his apparent wrongdoings at West Brom.

New regulations around club ownership are needed in the modern game and in England especially, with the current rules only hindering teams like the Baggies.

Giving fans the opportunity to stop owners from abusing the club’s assets is what is needed, with supporters clearly having the team’s best interests at heart.

Right now, things are extremely murky at The Hawthorns and because of this, promotion to the Premier League has never been more vital.

Who knows what position the Albion will be in come summer, especially if a return to the English top flight isn’t achieved, this will be the club’s saving grace.

Keeping Corberan at the helm will also be a challenge by the looks of things, with his reputation only being heightened by the classy job he’s currently doing.

In other West Brom news, Albion pulled the plug on a late loan signing on deadline day.
