Henry Winter shares verdict on West Brom boss Carlos Corberan amid Leeds United links

West Brom manager Carlos Corberan might just be the man to “reinvigorate” Leeds United, following the job he’s done at the Hawthorns and he could make an impact at Elland Road, according to The Times’ Henry Winter.

The former Huddersfield Town manager has been strongly linked [Sky Sports, 7 February] with a return to the Yorkshire outfit, following the sacking of manager Jesse Marsch on Monday [6 February].

According to reports in the Daily Mail [7 February], the Spaniard who was appointed Baggies manager in October is actually considering leaving the Baggies and returning to Elland Road where he worked under Marcelo Bielsa.

And Winter took to his personal Twitter account [6 February] to react to the news of Corberan’s links to the vacant Elland Road managerial post.

He tweeted: “Carlos Corberan organises, inspires and knows Leeds United (U23s). Huge respect to Albion, good club, great support who’ve given Corberan a stage to show his abilities. Tough call.

“But Corberan might just reinvigorate Leeds. Bigger name needed? Possibly. But Corberan will have an impact.”

Makes sense

Corberan’s links to the Leeds United vacant post certainly make a lot of sense, considering his history at the club and his work under former teacher Bielsa when he was honing his managerial craft.

To go back and make an impact at Elland Road just as he’s done at the Hawthorns and with Huddersfield Town certainly makes the role an attractive one for the Spaniard.

Winter is correct in that it’s a tough call for the Spaniard and indeed, he will make an impact in Yorkshire. However, how will he feel towards himself about unfinished business in the West Midlands?

Corberan’s undergone a swift renaissance of the Baggies in just a matter of about three months, and jumping ship could well leave a bitter taste for the club fans and represent a huge blow considering the club’s progress under his management.

The former Elland Road coach has indeed inspired and organised what was an absolute mess before he was appointed, and a stay at the Hawthorns would certainly do his reputation no harm at all.

In other West Brom news, a defender may never feature for the club again after what happened recently and may even leave for free.
