Carlos Corberan posts message to West Brom fans after new contract ends Leeds United speculation
Carlos Corberan posted a message to the West Brom supporters after his new contract ended speculation linking him to the Leeds United job.
The Baggies boss was heavily linked to a return to Elland Road where he had previously been an assistant to Marcelo Bielsa.
But the Albion announced on Tuesday night that the 39-year-old has instead signed an extension to his Hawthorns deal which will now run until 2027, and the Spaniard took to social media afterwards to express himself.
He posted on his personal Twitter account Tuesday night (7 February) after his deal was announced: “Since my appointment at WBA, I’ve done my best to help the club progress and now it is time to reinforce our goals.
“Very happy to extend our commitment. Looking forward to building on the togetherness, passion, work ethic and hunger that’s driving us on our current challenge.”

It was some of the best news coming out of the club in recent years that Corberan will remain as West Brom boss, because his short time in charge has seen a relegation battle turn into a promotion push.
There is a belief around the Hawthorns now that was completely absent by the end of Steve Bruce’s reign, and had the manager left for the Premier League at this point there is no telling which way things would have gone.
The work he has done since 25 October has been transformational to the club, and has forged a genuine chance at returning to the top flight this season.

As long as nothing that has happened since Jesse Marsch was sacked on Monday (6 February) has distracted from the current direction of travel then the most recent development should have put the club in a strong position.
Championship rivals will no doubt have been hoping that Corberan did move on since he has turned the Baggies into a threat, when they were nothing of the sort upon his arrival while languishing in 23rd.
His work will no doubt attract other clubs to come calling before long, but the first major hurdle has been cleared as there was no guarantee that he was going to re-commit in the face of Leeds’ interest.
The club deserves credit for making sure they kept hold of the man in the dug out and now attentions can turn to locking up a play off place for the end of the season.
In other West Brom news, the manager has been warned that he could be judged very harshly if his decision turns out badly.
