Finance Expert reacts to independent regulator leaks after West Brom challenges
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive West Brom columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns...
Dan Plumley has insisted that leaks of the new independent regulator appear to be positives with West Brom and their ownership troubles mentioned.
West Brom fans have been protesting over Guochuan Lai and his rein of terror at The Hawthorns, with the Chinese businessman even brought up in the Houses of Parliament.
Plumley admitted that a new ownership structure could delve more into the background of owners and not only where their money has come from, but if they have enough after that too.

“I think there is enough in there from the leak to suggest that there are some positives in terms of redistribution, but it also keeps the door open for investors,” he exclusively told West Brom News.
“The ownership structure stuff is interesting too if this was to come to pass, particularly given West Brom’s challenges in that space around the owner having a look in the background of where the money has come from and will come from to fund the club operations.
“That is positive in terms of ownership structure as we have seen these really bad cases of ownership, and owners not having the funds or the money has not been there.

“However, again, we’re back at the same question of how will it work in practice. A lot of positives in there and a lot of stuff to like, but we need to see how that regulation is going to look.”
This is certainly one to watch at West Brom more than anywhere else, but the question will always remain – will Lai still be in ownership control once the regulators come in?
Time will tell.
In other West Brom news, red flags have appeared yet again as Guochuan Lai looks to have missed his loan repayment deadline
