Sky Sports pundit predicts scoreline of West Brom clash v Birmingham City

West Brom will travel to St Andrew’s to face Birmingham City in the Championship on Friday (10 February) and David Prutton expects them to maintain their winning run.

Carlos Corberan’s side returned to winning ways last week after beating Coventry 1-0 on Friday (3 February), and Prutton predicts on Sky Sports a 2-1 win for the visitors.

Birmingham ended a run of five straight defeats after beating Swansea City 4-3 in the Championship (4 February), and they will be looking to build momentum with a positive result against the Baggies. But Prutton is confident that “this has to be an away win” for West Brom on Friday night.

West Brom

“Well, that was some way for Birmingham to end a run of five straight defeats. It looked so much like it was going to be six, until that incredible late comeback at Swansea to win 4-3,” said Prutton on Sky Sports.

“They will want to use that result to build momentum, but they run into a West Brom side in great form and they’ll be riding high after Carlos Corberan confirmed he was staying put this week. This has to be an away win on Friday night for me.”

Momentum

This week something important has happened for the club that could have a huge impact on the rest of the season.

Corberan was one of the candidates reportedly linked with the Leeds job, but he decided to put pen to paper on a new deal that will keep him at the club until 2027.

According to the Daily Mail, the new contract will give him a substantial pay rise, and it includes a much-higher buy-out clause as well.

West Brom

West Brom players will know that their manager is not going anywhere and they will be doubly charged up as they aim for promotion.

Frankly, what Corberan has done for the club in such a short time is unbelievable. When the Spaniard took charge of the club, the Baggies were sinking without a trace, and it felt like they would have a long fight on their hands to save themselves from getting relegated.

However, this has been a dramatic turnaround under him. West Brom are now sixth in the table with only four points behind Middlesbrough, who have played a game more.
