Tony Brown reacts to what West Brom midfielder Jayson Molumby did in 1-1 draw v Blackburn Rovers

Tony Brown blasted midfielder Jayson Molumby live on BBC Radio WM for his “poor” pass leading to the free-kick which led to Ben Brereton Diaz’s last-ditch equaliser at the Hawthorns.

The Baggies missed the chance to move into the playoff places in the Championship table after Brereton Diaz smashed in a late free-kick to end his personal goal drought and rescue a point for Blackburn Rovers.

Molumby who scored the game’s first goal for Carlos Corberan’s men gave the ball away in a poor area which led to the decisive free-kick allowing their promotion rivals a route back into the game.

And speaking on BBC Radio WM Sport [15 February, 6m:21sec], Brown criticised the midfielder for his poor pass which ultimately led to Blackburn’s equaliser. He said:

“You’re thinking it’s gonna be one goal which is gonna win this game and unfortunately, Albion did get that lead, thought they were gonna go on and win it now but they give the poor goal away, you know Molumby’s given a poor pass, gave the ball away, they had to give a foul at the edge of the box and Blackburn scored from a free-kick and that was it.

“They should have won that game when it was 1-0 but sometimes these mistakes happen and I feel sorry for him, he gets us in front and I just saw him walking off there and he’s distraught.”

Damaging

In what was a hard-fought and intense contest, West Brom simply could not hold on at the death and gave away two points which could have proved crucial to their chances of a playoff place at the end of the season.

It was a damaging goal to give away but made even worse following both Molumby’s poor pass which led to the free-kick and Josh Griffiths’ pivotal mistake failing to keep out Diaz’s last-ditch equaliser.

West Brom

It was certainly uncharacteristic of Corberan’s men who have been known for the solid and resolute defensive showings in recent weeks.

Diaz’s equaliser was the first home goal the Baggies have conceded in more than 13 hours of football since Corberan’s first game in charge at The Hawthorns in October, and it could well prove a very decisive one in their attempts to claw themselves back into the playoff picture.

The cracks may well be starting to appear in Corberan’s armour following what’s been a transformative period under the Spaniard since his appointment last year. Can the Baggies claim a crucial win against playoff rivals Watford on Monday?

In other West Brom news, a defender may never feature for the club again after what happened recently and may even leave for free.
