Carlos Corberan reveals he dishes out player ratings after West Brom matches to evaluate first-team
Carlos Corberan has revealed he creates player ratings from matches as a tool to evaluate his West Brom team on a game-to-game basis.
The Express and Star shared (17 February) that the Spaniard and his staff dish out a number for each player so they can assess which members of his squad are going through difficult patches of form and those who are progressing under his management.
Albion have taken huge strides since the arrival of Corberan in October but a defeat to Birmingham City followed by a point against Blackburn has left the club in tenth place in the Championship and two points off the top six.

Talking about the ways he assesses his players, the Spanish manager said: “Usually we have numbers when the players play.
“When the player plays bad we give one number, when they play not good or bad we give another number, when they play well we give another number, when they play very well we give another number. We have the numbers in between too.
“Because it allows in one graphic to give the growing of the player and the moment that the player is moving in. We are able to compare with the GPS, or of previous games about why you had a very good evaluation.
“It helps us seeing the growing and progress of the players, because all the players want to perform well, to see the things they were doing when they were progressing well. For them and us to have a better picture.”

Interesting
Creating a list of player ratings seems like such a simple technique to evaluate a player’s season, but this proves even the best in the business sometimes go back to basics in management.
The Baggies boss clearly has his eyes firmly set on promotion to the Premier League this season and the long-term project at The Hawthorns after rejecting the vacant Leeds managerial role, and getting rid of deadwood from his squad this summer will help that journey either way.
Tools such as player ratings can clearly highlight how a player has developed during his time at the helm and the efforts he is putting in on a weekly basis. Come the summer Corberan will, therefore a clearer idea of who will need to be sold and if any players need to head out on loan.
If West Brom are to complete their goal of promotion this season, the manager will need all able bodies to give 100% to every game in the coming months. Hopefully, the player ratings will continue to rise as a result.
In other West Brom news, a first-team player suffers a fresh injury blow and is now likely to be out until April.
