West Brom boss Carlos Corberan has caught attention of West Ham United following links to Leeds United

West Ham have designs on appointing West Brom manager Carlos Corberan in the future after his contract extension put him currently out of reach, The Guardian reports.

The Baggies boss was heavily linked to the still-vacant Leeds United job when Jesse Marsch was sacked on 6 February, but ended speculation by signing a new deal at The Hawthorns despite only arriving in October.

And with David Moyes under pressure in charge of fellow Premier League strugglers West Ham it appears Corberan’s achievements haven’t gone unnoticed in East London either, but his contract move has made that a matter for West Brom to worry about another day.

The Albion boss is termed a “future target” in the eyes of the Hammers board by Jacob Steinberg in The Guardian, despite the current worries about Moyes.

Destabilising

Corberan has yet to win a game since committing his future to West Brom in the midst of the sudden threat that he might leave.

The 3-2 defeat at Watford on Monday night (20 February), unfortunate though it might have been, means the Baggies have now dropped eight points out of the previous nine in the Championship to put a significant dent in the play-off push.

When it looked like Leeds were pushing hard to take the Spaniard to Elland Road West Brom were looking comfortable in sixth, but are now sitting 10th and have missed another opportunity to climb back up.

West Brom

But whether it is an affect of the links to the Premier League, or the incredible charge which took the club from relegation candidates to play-off challenger running out of steam – the club went out of the FA Cup off the back of a league defeat shortly before the Leeds links – is harder to say.

The form since October has been spectacular on the whole so it is not actually a shock that top flight clubs are paying attention, but if this is the effect of links starting to come out it won’t be beneficial for Corberan to be in the conversation for any other clubs either.

One win and a draw in the past six games in all competitions isn’t up to the standard of the rest of his tenure, and while the Blackburn game was three points before a late free kick, and the Watford loss saw an element of misfortune in the goals, there is more to be concerned about than just a few weeks ago.
