West Brom fans demand meeting with owner Lai Guochuan amid financial concerns

West Brom fans are demanding a meeting with club owner Lai Guochuan amid serious questions over the £5m loan he took out in March 2021, say the Daily Mail.

The fans met with CEO Ron Gourlay earlier this month to discuss a meeting with Lai, who is based in China and has only attended one West Brom game in the last four years after purchasing the club for £200m back in 2016.

But it’s unclear when the owner is next set to be in the UK which causes doubt around their plans for a meeting, with serious concerns about the club’s long-term future amid a £5m loan which is yet to be paid back and a further £20m loan being taken out in December.

Needed

All the fans want is open, transparent communication from the owners of the club about the future of West Brom and we can’t get it.

Lai is silent in the background despite taking money out of the club and breaking promises about when it will be paid back, while we struggle to compete on the pitch due to a lack of investment in the playing squad.

With parachute payments set to halt after this season, promotion would solve a lot of problems but is far from guaranteed at The Hawthorns.

West Brom

We currently sit four points off the playoff places after the most recent defeat to Watford, and the honeymoon period for Carlos Corberan is certainly over after a run of 10 wins in his first 13 games has been followed by four defeats in the last six.

We need answers and we need them quickly, because without Premier League football next season who knows what the future holds for West Brom.

In other West Brom news, Jed Wallace has shared what Corberan told the players after defeat to Watford.
