West Brom news: Carlos Corberan confirms Tom Rogic will not feature in Middlesbrough clash due to injury

Carlos Corberan has confirmed that Tom Rogic has yet to return to West Brom training and will miss the Championship clash against Middlesbrough on Saturday (25 February) through injury.

The Australian midfielder hasn’t been in a Baggies squad since the FA Cup defeat to Bristol City in January, having initially missed out on a section basis before picking up a hamstring injury.

As reported by Birmingham Live (Friday 24 February), Corberan confirmed to the press that he would be without Rogic for the crunch clash against Michael Carrick’s Boro side – who have won five straight matches in the Championship.

He said: “We haven’t yet recovered any of the players, for example Rogic, who is the closest one to recover – he couldn’t train with the team. The same players are available and ready for the selection that I have to make.

“He’s still not quite ready to train with us fully. At the beginning it looked like it wasn’t even an injury, it was more of a fatigue, but with the passing of weeks the fatigue has still been there and the muscle is still tight.

“That’s why he couldn’t make any training yet with the group.”

Struggles

Every time Rogic looks like he is about to hit top gear in a West Brom shirt, he either drops his level of performance or ends up on the sidelines.

The midfielder has a mercurial edge to him, and although he can’t be trusted to start games week in week out due to his fitness, he does possess a certain match-winning quality. His stunning cameo straight after the World Cup break against Sunderland was a prime example of the technical ability he oozes at times.

Although Rogic’s absence will frustrate Corberan, he still has a plethora of options to call upon in the middle of the park. With Jayson Molumby, Okay Yokuslu and Nathaniel Chalobah all fighting for the two central midfield spots in Corberan’s side, the Baggies are by no means short on numbers.

Albion will be up against it when they face high-flying Middlesbrough this weekend and will need to be at their very best to get anything out of the game. Unfortunately, Rogic will once again be watching the game on his TV screen from home and not influencing the match from the Hawthorns.
