Daryl Dike and Dara O’Shea react to Josh Griffiths display in West Brom win v Middlesbrough

Josh Griffiths produced an outstanding performance as West Brom returned to winning ways with a 2-0 win over Middlesbrough at The Hawthorns on Saturday (25 February) in the Championship.

Daryl Dike scored twice in the opening ten minutes as the Baggies secured all three points. Dike praised Griffiths on Instagram as he kept a clean sheet.

Dara O’Shea was also full of praise for the 21-year-old goalkeeper. The victory will give a much-needed boost to Albion’s own promotion hopes after a poor run of results in recent weeks.

“Big win! Great performance from everyone – buzzing to get my first clean sheet and a brilliant atmosphere again,” wrote Griffiths on Instagram.

“Deserved it big time,” responded O’Shea.

“Safe hands,” wrote Dike.

Hopes reignited?

Following their 3-2 defeat against Watford in their previous game, the Baggies needed a strong performance on their home turf.

Carlos Corberan’s side scored two early goals that ended promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough’s five-match winning run.

Dike, who scored his first goal in over a month, made all the difference in the opening 10 minutes, but Griffiths produced an assured performance once again.

Jed Wallace delivered a pin-point left-foot centre for Dike who slid the ball from close range. It was his first goal in seven games, and Corberan will hope that he can score freely now.

Dike has a great opportunity to complete his hat-trick after the break. He was put clean through but was denied by the Boro goalkeeper.

Corberan will be particularly happy to see that his side has managed to keep another clean sheet, which was only their third of the year. It was also the first clean sheet for young Griffiths in only his third appearance for the club.

In other West Brom news, Albion fans have been urged to look at the bigger picture when it comes to this first-team player.
