West Brom: Action for Albion share ‘grave danger’ verdict over MSD loan

West Brom fans group Action for Albion took to Twitter on 7 March to clear up the misconception from fans that The Hawthorns can’t be sold due to its ACV (Asset of Community Value) status.

The peacefully protesting fan group shared that West Brom are in “grave danger” if the club default on payments on the MSD loan, something which would put The Hawthorns under threat.

Action for Albion confessed that the fact The Hawthorns is an ACV doesn’t mean it can’t be sold, as well as other properties like the training ground and Tom Silk building.

“There appears to be a misconception amongst some Albion supporters that because our home stadium for 123 years the Hawthorns has a ACV (Asset Of Community Value) registered that it cannot be sold. That is not correct,” said Action for Albion on Twitter. (7 March, 10:05 AM)

“The grave danger is that if we default on payments on the MSD loan then the Hawthorns and other related properties (training ground, Tom Silk Building etc) which have been used as security against that loan will be under threat.”

West Brom

Messy.

With West Brom majority shareholder Guochuan Lai having a knack for missing loan repayments things could be getting really messy at The Hawthorns soon.

Action for Albion will be shining a light on these matters, literally, during tonight’s Championship fixture against Wigan by asking fans to shine their mobile torches in the 12th minute of the game.

This will be followed by a march to The Hawthorns for the Huddersfield fixture on 11 March and it’s this kind of solidarity that is desperately needed to showcase Lai’s wrongdoings.

Many fans will have been under the impression that the ACV status would have protected The Hawthorns and other security blankets from sales, however, this is unfortunately not the case.

If this all really boils down to events like selling the stadium then there is pretty much no turning back for the club from that point onwards.

It’s a scary prospect to even consider and yet again it highlights just how badly Lai has run this club into the ground, the sooner he’s ousted, the better.
