West Brom open to offers for takeover as Guochuan Lai yet to pay back £5m loan

West Brom are open to offers to take over the club with Guochuan Lai still yet to pay back his £5m loan from last year, say The Athletic.

Baggies fans have been protesting recently for the owner to leave the club as soon as possible, with the money he owes to be paid back to the club plus interest after missing three deadlines to return the cash.

And now according to The Athletic (6 March), they are very much in the camp of wanting to receive an offer from elsewhere for investment or a full takeover although an amount isn’t mentioned.

“Another Championship club very much in the ‘Make us an offer, please’ camp are West Bromwich Albion,” they wrote.

Fans continue to protest against Lai and have written to him demanding he pay back what he owes, but have received no response as of yet from the Chinese native.

Time is up

Guochuan Lai has been awful for this football club, draining us of funds and leading us to the Championship and becoming a yo-yo club.

Then he started taking money out of the club for other things and making the situation at The Hawthorns even worse, and finally we’ve all had enough.

Hopefully he’s got the message that he isn’t wanted here, and he can start formally inviting offers soon to take the club off his hands and we can start going in the right direction again.

But without Premier League football next season it will obviously be incredibly difficult to do, and options of people stepping in to pick up the club will be slim.

Something needs to be done to get Lai out of the club if West Brom are to move forward and eventually bounce back, so hopefully this invitation to make an offer will attract the eyes of the right people.

In other West Brom news, protests are set to continue against Lai this week according to reports.
