David Prutton predicts West Brom v Huddersfield Town clash for Sky Sports

David Prutton believes West Brom will continue their push for the Championship play-off spots with a close-fought win over Huddersfield Town on Saturday (11 March).

Carlos Corberan’s side returned to winning ways against Wigan in midweek thanks to Daryl Dike’s sixth goal of the season, a win that leaves the Baggies ninth in the Championship table and four points off Norwich City in sixth place.

In his predictions column for Sky Sports (9 March), Prutton predicted that despite Huddersfield’s recent revival under new manager Neil Warnock, The Albion will have too much quality and pick up three more points with a 1-0 win at The Hawthorns.

“It was a big win for West Brom in midweek,” he wrote. “They found a way past Wigan and are back to within four points of the play-off places. They can’t afford too many slip-ups again if they are to make the top six.

“Huddersfield battled to a point against Bristol City on Tuesday, and Neil Warnock will be pleased for the clean sheet. But there are six points separating themselves and safety right now.

“It is hard to see past a home win here.”

Nerves

Although the Baggies picked up a crucial victory to stay in the hunt for the promotion spots, they must now back this up with a sustained run of form.

Since the New Year, Corberan’s side are yet to win consecutive matches in the Championship – a run of form that has been detrimental to their promotion hopes and seen them slip out of the top six.

Albion will be expected to dispose of Huddersfield with relative ease, given the gulf in class between the two teams. Warnock’s side are currently six points off safety, and after winning just eight games all season, look destined for relegation to League One.

Add into the mix Dike’s recent goalscoring form of three goals in as many games, and Albion fans will be hoping to claim three points at the Hawthorns and move yet another step towards a remarkable promotion.

With the backing of The Hawthorns faithful, West Brom should have far too much quality for Huddersfield in this clash.

In other West Brom news, a defender may never feature for the club again after what happened and may even leave for free.
