Gareth Vincent raves about Daryl Dike as West Brom striker scores v Cardiff City

West Brom striker Daryl Dike is a player “full of confidence” after finding the net once again in the Championship, according to BBC journalist Gareth Vincent.

Dike netted his fourth goal in five games in Wednesday night’s (15 March) league encounter with Cardiff, which ended 1-1 at the Cardiff City Stadium.

The Albion opened the scoring after 17 minutes as Dike latched on to a superb delivery from Jed Wallace, with Sory Kaba equalising just after the hour mark.

“It is now four goals in five games for West Brom striker Daryl Dike, who is enjoying the best goalscoring run of his Albion career,” Vincent reported live on BBC Sport.

“He looked a player full of confidence as he stroked home on the volley from Jed Wallace’s cross.

“It has been a fairly even contest so far, but Cardiff have work to do if they are to register a third straight home victory. The Bluebirds have not come back to win a game all season.”

Albion edging towards play-off spots

West Brom were edging closer and closer to the Championship play-off places with back-to-back 1-0 wins over Wigan and Huddersfield. But Carlos Corberan’s men could not make it three from three against relegation-threatened sides.

Nonetheless, the visitors did secure another point in their push for the play-off places, but they will certainly be disappointed not to have taken home all three.

As noted by Vincent, Dike is now enjoying a rich vein of form, the best of his career at the club. The striker now has seven Championship goals to his name this season.

The American, who has missed a large chunk of the campaign through a thigh injury, will be key to the run-in from now until the end of the season as the Albion chase promotion to the Premier League.

West Brom are five points off the play-off spots, and will already have both eyes firmly fixed on their upcoming encounter with fellow promotion hopefuls Millwall. Their next opponents currently occupy sixth spot in the table.

In other West Brom news, independent shareholders are on red alert watching Guochuan Lai keenly at the club as the deadline for his loan repayment approaches.
