Sky Sports pundit makes £75m West Brom takeover admission after news emerges

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

Kevin Campbell believes that West Brom may struggle to get a buyer for £75million if they fail to make the play-offs this season.

According to The Telegraph on 16 December, there was a £175million valuation on the club two years and go and an offer of £100million was rejected by Guochuan Lai.

It’s also been understood that an American group asked about a potential £50million takeover but were told not to even consider it.

Amid the varied valuations, football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley was asked by West Brom News [22 March] about what the club can realistically be bought for and he believes that £75million is a fair price.

When asked about his thoughts on the valuation and whether he sees the club being sold sooner, Campbell, a Sky Sports pundit, exclusively told West Brom News, “No, not at the minute I don’t see it happening.

“I think where the club finish and they need to get in the playoff as a club like West Brom are going to want to be in the shake-up to go up.

“So I think a lot is going to hinge on how they finish the season and whether they make the playoffs and if they could get up.

“If they can do that, then they’re in business.

“If they don’t, then, you know, people I’m sure will be reluctant to purchase even at £75million.”

Currently, the Baggies sit in ninth place and if they win their game in hand, they will climb up two spots and be within touching distance from the play-offs.

Carlos Corberan has done wonders in his relatively short time at the Hawthorns as he’s taken a relegation-threatened team to one that’s challenging for a top-six finish.

In other West Brom news, a defender may never feature for the club again after what happened and may even leave for free.
