West Brom: Wolves winger Daniel Podence wants Hawthorns and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium experiences

West Brom and Tottenham are the two away grounds that Wolves winger Daniel Podence says he most wants to visit as a supporter.

With the Baggies bouncing between the Premier League and the Championship in recent years, and their rivals doing the same prior to 2018, there has only been two meetings in the past decade – a 3-2 Albion win at Molineux and 1-1 draw at The Hawthorns in 2021 – and both were missed by fans due to Covid-19.

But that doesn’t mean the rivalry has escaped Podence who named West Brom first when asked which away days he would choose as a Wolves fan, along with Spurs’ glittering new stadium.

West Brom

The Portuguese winger told Wolves’ Official website: “Apart from West Brom, it would probably be against Tottenham.

“It’s a great stadium to watch football in because it’s so modern and comfortable, but to be among the Wolves fans would be great because they create a massive noise and it would be a good game to watch with them.”

Wait goes on

There remains a chance that the derby might get a re-run next season but it will take Carlos Corberan to force the club into the play-offs in the final weeks of the season.

It would complete an stunning turnaround from the relegation battle that was developing under Steve Bruce, but currently sitting five points off sixth place with a game in hand on most clubs around them it is still on.

Given how things have gone at The Hawthorns and Molineux over the past 11 years that would probably mean they pass Wolves going in the opposite direction and the two sides miss each other once more.

Julen Lopetegui’s men are indeed locked in the battle against the drop in the top flight currently, three points off the bottom three after their dramatic defeat to Leeds United before the international break (18 March), so both clubs’ short-term future is finely balanced.

There aren’t many stadiums in world football that can now surpass Spurs’ new home ground, so it is no surprise that Podence would favour a trip to the away end in North London.

But nothing beats a derby in football, so even if he has to experience it as a player rather than a fan he won’t be alone in hoping that the next Baggies vs Wolves clash isn’t far off.

In other West Brom news, an international coach was shocked by what has happened to one of his player at the Hawthorns, didn’t want to disrespect another club.
