Financial auditors: There is ‘material uncertainty’ over future of West Brom

The financial auditors of West Brom have handed the club a brutal two-word verdict regarding their future under Guochuan Lai, stating there is “material uncertainty”

Controlling shareholder Lai has been under fire from supporters of the Championship outfit over recent years.

And fans will now be even more upset with the Chinese businessman given the latest verdict from the club’s auditors.

“The club’s auditors say there is ‘material uncertainty’ about West Brom’s future,” according to The Athletic.

The news comes amid supporters’ groups calling for Lai to communicate with them immediately in an open letter.

And adding to the mess is the fact that the Albion are in the process of releasing their financial accounts made up to 30 June 2022.

Rising tensions

It’s been a complicated season both on and off the pitch for West Brom, with the players doing their best to remain focused on the task at hand amid all the background noise.

They have made a pretty good effort so far, with the Championship play-off spots still in their sights, with the Albion currently sitting ninth in the table.

A fine run of form under Carlos Corberan means the Baggies are just five points off sixth place, with a huge clash with Millwall coming up at The Hawthorns on Saturday (1 April).

All involved in that one will be hoping the boardroom scenes will have calmed down somewhat by then, but the latest news from the auditors that there is material uncertainty about West Brom’s future is alarming.

No club wants to hear such a comment, but it is perhaps not surprising given the chaos that has followed Lai in recent times.

He seemingly has no respect or consideration for the fans of the club, who have now reached boiling point amid real fears for the future of West Brom.

In other West Brom news, Kevin Campbell has delivered his verdict for this weekend’s clash against Millwall.
