Nigel Quashie rages at West Brom squad after what he saw in 3-1 loss v Rotherham

Former West Brom midfielder Nigel Quashie has blasted the current squad for not taking responsibility amid their 3-1 loss to Rotherham on Friday (7 April).

The Baggies saw their playoff chances all but ended after throwing away a lead to make it seven away games without a win against the relegation-threatened side.

But Quashie, who played for the club during the 2006-07 season, has told the current squad to “get a grip of the dressing room” after a big loss, and said the off-field troubles aren’t a reason for poor performances.

“I understand the frustrations with chairman, board members and managers at football clubs but they don’t play,” he said on his personal Twitter account (7 April).

“The amount of managers come and gone in the last few years at [West Brom] sums it up.

“Some players need to take responsibility and get a grip of that dressing room.”

Spot on

There’s no doubting that the off-field troubles at the club are a big issue right now at West Brom, but they’re not an excuse for the on-pitch performances.

This season has been awful on the pitch for the most part, and while Carlos Corberan has made it somewhat respectable by even getting us back into playoff contention, it’s not been good enough.

West Brom

All year performances haven’t been good enough in defence especially, but nobody has really stepped up to take responsibility and ensure things were fixed.

That’s been the biggest hole in the squad this season, and if we’re going to get out of the Championship and back into the Premier League next season it must be addressed.

We need more natural leaders in the dressing room to go with more quality and better performances. Someone needs to step up and make themselves the standard-bearer for this club for us to really progress.
