West Brom blasted as ‘absolutely shocking’ in Rotherham defeat as Pat Frost explodes

Former West Brom kit man Pat Frost slammed the Baggies players following the miserable 3-1 defeat to Rotherham as part of terrible long-term away form.

The Albion threw away a goal advantage after John Swift had scored a penalty to lose on the road again, in the latest blow to the playoff hopes.

While Frost spared Carlos Corberan from his ire thanks to the rescue job the manager has done since taking over from Steve Bruce he didn’t hold back from criticising those on the pitch at the New York Stadium.

The England kit man posted on Twitter following the result on Friday (7 April): “Absolutely shocking, individually and collectively we are way off.

“Head coach still has credit as let’s be honest when he took over we were going down.

“13 away wins out of the last 60 away games is woeful”.

Undercut

West Brom have won five away games out of 19 in the Championship this season, and if you are only picking up three points in every fourth road trip it means your home form has to be absolutely spotless to have any hope of getting anywhere.

With the current squad, plus the extensive injury problems, Corberan has done an admirable job, to the point where it was almost possible to forget what drudgery the Valerien Ismael reign quickly became, and the Steve Bruce era was more or less throughout.

If his two predecessors were underperforming with this set of players the Spaniard has arguably overachieved, and while that has ended the threat of entering the third tier, it is now looking a stretch to be enough to get back to the top one.

West Brom

Were it not for the considerably worries off the pitch the club could perhaps look forward to the next campaign with confidence, in the knowledge that the manager should be able to produce more consistency with a full summer and preseason with his squad.

But without parachute payments and with an expectation that player sales are going to be needed without Premier League money rolling in it feels like this season might be the last best chance to make it back to the top flight in some time.

It’s the hope that kills you, and Corberan improbably managed to provide some despite the club’s dismal start to the season, so missing out on a playoff spot now and all that potentially means will make it all the more disappointing.

In other West Brom news, the off-pitch turmoil at The Hawthorns is now being used as a yard-marker to illustrate how bad things are at a Premier League club.
