Jed Wallace admits West Brom players have bottled it in Championship

Jed Wallace has admitted that the West Brom squad has bottled it, following the disappointing games with lowly Rotherham and QPR throughout Easter.

The Baggies recent failure to capitalise on results elsewhere in the Championship is reflected in their return of three points from the last four games in what is a setback for their playoff aspirations.

Wallace criticised his teammates for not playing to the level that they are capable of, with a feeling that they have let themselves and the club down.

As reported by the Express and Star, Wallace was very forthright with his response after dropping two points at home from a winning position.

“It’s basically a loss really, we start the game well, get 2-0 up and then a goal out of nothing and a calamity goal really,” he said.

“It’s disappointing, we had a massive opportunity over the weekend to make a dent in where we want to get to and for the lack of a better saying we’ve bottled it as a group of players.

“We’ve not done enough to win the two games and haven’t played to the level we know we can play at all really.”

Now or never for playoff push

Carlos Corberan’s side are now sitting in 11th place, five points behind Balckburn Rovers in 6th position with an effective race between nine clubs for the final two playoff spots.

It promises to be an enthralling finish to the Championship season whilst all is not lost for Albion. Yes, recent results have been underwhelming but a late flourish could yet open the door to a prospective promotion.

Wallace is justified to bemoan his team’s inconsistency in performances as well as results but they are still in the mix, with time to make an impact.

It will be difficult, especially with just two home games out of the six remaining Championship fixtures but that is what lies ahead for West Brom. Their mettle will be particularly tested in the upcoming triple header against fellow promotion hopefuls Sunderland, Sheffield United and Norwich City.

In the context of this season, it really is now or never for the playoff push.
