West Brom: Daryl Dike to undergo Achilles surgery

Daryl Dike faces a lengthy lay-off following the injury he sustained last weekend, as reported on the official West Brom website.

It has been revealed that a scan has confirmed that the striker requires surgery on his right Achilles tendon to repair a full rupture after the 2-1 win over Stoke.

The USA international will now be missing for several months as he prepares for surgery and the subsequent rehab process, in what is a significant blow to the player and the club.

The briefing from the Hawthorns set out the lengthy time frame for the 22-year-old.

“Albion striker Daryl Dike will be sidelined for six to nine months after suffering an Achilles tendon injury at Stoke City on Saturday,” they confirmed.

The former Orlando City player, whose first introduction to English football was at Barnsley, registered seven goals from 23 appearances this season for the Baggies.

Lost momentum

Not only was the striker making strides at WBA, but he was doing well within the USMNT setup. This injury will obviously rule him out of the international scene, as well, for quite some time but all of that must now wait.

Carlos Corberan bemoaned the loss of another key player, following an awkward landing on the pitch at Stoke on Saturday. He was replaced for the second half by Karlan Grant and now he and others will need to fill the void left by Dike’s absence for the Championship climax.

The Spanish coach stated that Achilles injuries are ‘never easy to manage’ [Birmingham Live] but he will need to move on without Dike, for the foreseeable future.

Starting on Tuesday night against Blackpool, WBA will need to find a formula that will deliver the required goals to enable the playoff push with just five games remaining.

Three points at Bloomfield Road could be enough to climb into sixth place in the table in what is set to be a frantic finish to the season.
