Journalist gushes over West Brom duo John Swift and Taylor Gardner-Hickman in Blackpool win

Joe Chapman was thrilled by West Brom duo John Swift and Taylor Gardner-Hickman combining for a goal in the 2-0 victory over Blackpool.

The Baggies visited Bloomfield Road on Tuesday, 18 April, and picked up three crucial points which leapfrogged them into the play-off positions.

Brandon Thomas-Asante opened the scoring while Gardner-Hickman put the cherry on the cake en route to an important away victory.

Via Twitter, Birmingham Live’s Chapman wrote, “A night in front of goal for the acronyms! Albion work the ball really well on the right. Swift has a chance to shoot but intelligently tees up TGH, who finishes from close range. Excellent.”

Huge result

On the balance of things, it can be argued that the Baggies got lucky with the three points from their trip to Blackpool.

The hosts had the lion’s share of the ball and even created more chances but were not as clinical as the Baggies were.

Carlos Corberan and the West Brom fans will not care and they’ll currently be in seventh heaven as they’re in the play-off spots with four games to go.

They will obviously take nothing for granted as it’s very tight to call and 12th-place Watford will also fancy their chances of making the top six as they’re just four points behind.

However, given where the Baggies were when Corberan took over, few would’ve thought they would be here in the middle of April.

They face Sunderland next who are also vying for a top-six finish but the game against Sheffield United, despite them having a good season, may be the better of the two.

The Blades are likely to secure automatic promotion and may not even need the win so there’s a good chance that the Baggies can pick up the three points there.

Corberan will be telling his players that 10 points from the next four games should be good enough, but even eight or nine could do the trick.
