Nathaniel Chalobah suffers potentially serious ankle ligament injury in West Brom 2-0 win v Hull

Nathaniel Chalobah suffered a “potentially serious injury” during the 2-0 win over Hull as West Brom kept their playoff hopes alive on Tuesday (18 April).

The Baggies moved into the playoff places thanks to goals from Brandon Thomas-Asante and Taylor Gardner-Hickman, having played a game more than the teams around them currently.

But the performance was marred by a first-half injury to January signing Nathaniel Chalobah, who was forced off with an ankle problem that journalist Joe Chapman described as “potentially serious” on his personal Twitter account (18 April).

“He was jumping, and when he touched the ground – not like Dike, whose was the Achilles – it looks like the ligament of the ankle,” Corberan said in his post-match presser, as quoted by Birmingham Mail.

“We don’t know how serious it is, on Wednesday we’re going to have a scan and we’ll know more, but it’s going to be difficult.

“Unfortunately we lost him and it doesn’t look like an easy injury. It’s going to be another important one.”

Hard luck

Even after the shocking season we’ve had, the fact we’re still in the running for a playoff spot with three games remaining says it all.

We’ve got so much quality and talent in the squad that we shouldn’t be anywhere near the Championship, and yet here we are.

Now we might make it to the playoffs and our squad has been dismantled by injuries, with the likes of Chalobah, Dike, Grady Diangana and Matt Phillips ruled out too.

But not just the fact that they’re out, but they’re all serious injuries that could alter the way the player performs once they eventually returns, and not in a good way.

It’s another massive blow for Corberan and the Baggies, but we have now managed to grind out two wins and if we can get to the playoffs then we have to give it all we can to become a Premier League side once again against all odds.
