West Brom: Tony Mowbray shares Sunderland injury update on Edouard Michut ahead of Championship clash

Tony Mowbray has revealed Edouard Michut is struggling with a back injury ahead of Sunderland’s Championship clash against West Brom.

The Baggies have picked up form at the perfect time and are currently occupying the final play-off place after back-to-back victories.

Sunderland are just a point behind having played a game more and will need a win to close the gap to the current top six.

However, on loan PSG sensation, Michut, is a doubt for the game after missing Tuesday’s 1-1 draw against Huddersfield Town.

“I don’t think it’s too serious. He’s had a scan on his back. It didn’t show very much, and yet he’s the one who has to try to train and feel the pain,” said Mowbray (Northern Echo, 19 April).

“He’s obviously got a bit of damage there, so it’s a question of whether he can play through that or not. We’ll see over the next few days whether he trains or not.”

Good timing

This run of form has come at the perfect time for West Brom and three wins on the spin would put Albion in an excellent position to secure a playoff berth.

It’s all about timing during the run-in and Carlos Corberan has managed to turn things around with the wins over Stoke City and Blackpool. The job is far from complete, but another victory on Saturday (23 April) would make life a lot easier heading into the season’s closing fixtures.

However, the Baggies have their own injury worries to contend with. Daryl Dike has suffered a long-term Achilles injury which will keep him out of action for a considerable amount of time. It’s been a luckless season for the striker and this could well be a career-defining moment for the American.

The pressure is now on Brandon Thomas-Asante to step up and deliver. Any successful playoff team usually has an in-form striker at its core and that’s what the 24-year-old must be.
