Brandon Thomas-Asante breaks silence on Ben Wilmot injury in West Brom win v Stoke
West Bromwich Albion’s Brandon Thomas-Asante has revealed he has already reached out to Ben Wilmot of Stoke City, as reported by The Sun.
The pair were involved in a tussle which resulted in Wilmot breaking his back, a “sickening” injury in the 2-1 win that was marred with many problems for players.
In the freak incident, Thomas-Asante had pulled his opponent’s shirt as he jumped toward the ball, something he admitted was something that happens all the time in games.

Thomas-Asante displayed humility in his reported comments toward the injury-stricken Stoke defender.
“I can understand where they’re coming from,” he said about the angry fans. “I don’t think Stoke fans are all horrible people, I think there are great people there.
“I have spoken to Ben, I messaged him the next day and said ‘I’m sure you don’t want to hear from me, I just wanted to check in’.
“It’s not something which happens intentionally. You can’t bank on someone jumping just as you’re pulling him. There are 1,000 pulls a game, it’s a contact sport.
“With that said, I’m very sorry it happened. As I’ve said I’ve spoken to him.”

The right response
The former Salford City man did the right thing to contact Wilmot, he will be pleased that the response he received was a cordial one with the Potters’ player putting a positive spin on things, looking forward to getting back to training as soon as his rehab allows.
Thomas-Asante now also needs to channel his reaction in a similar manner.
On the pitch, he is in a rich vein of form with his ninth goal of the season, against Blackpool on Tuesday night, contributing to the recent upturn for the Baggies.

After two wins on the road, the Spanish coach will look to the Hawthorns crowd to bring home comforts, to roar his side on to another win but Tony Mowbray’s Mackems will have other ideas.
