Crazy footage emerges from Coventry game to aid West Brom in Championship play-off bid

The current Championship season has already been crazy enough, but things were taken to another level on Wednesday (19 April) as Coventry City handed West Brom a boost in their play-off push.

The aid was courtesy of Coventry goalkeeper Ben Wilson, who netted a 95th-minute equaliser against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.

Sam Gallagher had given the hosts the lead shortly before the halfway stage, but Coventry, also seeking a play-off place, decided not to sit back and take a 1-0 defeat.

It stunned everyone inside the stadium, with the commentary team unsurprisingly part of the shocked group of people watching on.

As per Cov Goals, lead commentator Gary Taphouse stated: “Ben Wilson was up from the back, and he caused chaos in there.

“And virtually the last kick of the game has sealed a point for Coventry City. No clean sheet for Ben Wilson, but he has bagged himself a goal!”

Craziness aside, the goal has handed the Albion a boost in their Championship play-off bid, with fellow promotion hopefuls Blackburn dropping points in a tense battle among several clubs. They did leapfrog West Brom into sixth with the point, but it will feel more like a loss for Rovers.

The unforgettable equaliser does, however, move Coventry level on points with the Baggies, in what is one of the most competitive play-off races ever.

League leaders Burnley have all but sealed the league title with their 92 points so far, with Sheffield United in a commanding position with 82 points.

Luton Town and Middlesbrough meanwhile can also be confident with their tallies of 75 and 74 points respectively, but there is then a long list of clubs vying for the other all-important play-off spots.

It really could go down to the wire on the final day of the season, with just six points separating Millwall in fifth and Swansea all the way down in 13th.

And in the middle of that, West Brom and Coventry are both on 63 points and Sunderland and Norwich are both on 59 points in just a handful of battles that must be watched closely.

Plenty of goals, shocking moments and controversy undoubtedly lies ahead in the weeks to come, but Wilson’s goal will definitely go down as one of the most unforgettable moments of another crazy Championship season.
