Tony Mowbray shares what he’s read about West Brom protests against Guochuan Lai
Tony Mowbray has hailed West Brom fans for scrapping the planned protests against Guochuan Lai to focus on supporting the playoff push.
The Baggies have found themselves right back in the mix to make it into the top six with four games to go, sitting just one point outside the playoff spots.
This recent turn of events has seen fans scrap a planned protest against the chairman for the final home game at The Hawthorns against Norwich, and former boss Mowbray has admitted he is expecting a tough game when he takes his Sunderland side to the ground on Sunday (23 April).
“I know the emotion and passion of the place when it’s going well,” he said, as quoted by journalist Lewis Cox (21 April).
“I just read they are postponing campaign against ownership in support of the playoffs push.
“It’ll be a really good game, I know when the stadium is near full it’s an amazing place to play football.”
Mowbray gets it
Mowbray knows from his time at the club that all the fans want is a football club that actually cares.
West Brom doesn’t have to be the most successful team in the world, but as a community club that is loved and adored by people it deserves to be run properly.

The fact the protest has been scrapped to fully back the team in their push for the top six says it all. This is nothing against the management or the players, it’s just Lai.
He’s got away with all sorts since he has been here, and now that it is all coming to light the fans are pulling together to get him out.
We want our football club back and we want him to be nothing to do with it. More people like Mowbray who understand the club and what it’s about are needed.
Hopefully we’re not too nice to him on Sunday though, and can take all three points from his side to keep our promotion hopes alive.
In other West Brom news, one ace has suffered a “potentially serious” injury this week.
