Hal Robson-Kanu reacts to Guochuan Lai protests development at West Brom live on Sky Sport

Hal Robson-Kanu believes West Brom fans suspending their protests towards Guochuan Lai shows how much they care about the team and club.

Fans were due to hold a protest ahead of their final home fixtures of the season but with the team battling back into playoff contention, they suspended planned marches in order to put their full support behind the team.

While appearing as a pundit live on Sky Sports (23 April, 11:55) ahead of the clash with Sunderland, Robson-Kanu was asked about the decision and backed the fans.

“Yeah it’s a positive step and it shows how much the club means to the fans,” he said.

“My time there was incredible. Every time we needed the fans behind us we had them and this is another opportunity for the fans to show that and with that decision it gives West Brom the best opportunity to really perform and get the results that they need.

“West Brom have come down, they are a Premier League team and they’ve got Premier League experience. They’ve done phenomenally well in terms of turning the season around, because earlier in the season it was very dire, they were lower than a snake’s belly at times and it wasn’t nice to see.

“So actually to see what they’ve done now, they’re showing what they’re about and these final few games, it’s going to be vital that the fans are behind them.”

The result was obviously not a good one against Sunderland at home, but the fans were up for it all afternoon and tried to get the team over the line.

Ultimately the quality of the opposition caught us out and got the three points, but we are still very much in the race with a two-point gap and three games to play.

It won’t be easy to overcome, but there are so many teams still pushing that mistakes are bound to be made and so long as we do our job we have every chance of being involved at the end of the season.

Robson-Kanu knows why we are protesting and he gets it, so it’s great to see him publicly backing the fans for doing it.

We want the best for the club as we love it and want West Brom to still be here in five, ten, twenty and fifty years time. The longer Lai is in charge, the bigger the chance of that not being the case becomes.

In other West Brom news, Don Goodman was absolutely stunned by what he saw in 2-1 loss v Sunderland.
