Super Computer makes West Brom Championship promotion prediction after loss v Sunderland

West Brom currently stand a 21% chance of making the Championship promotion places after the bitterly disappointing 2-1 defeat to Sunderland, according to Five-Thirty-Eight and their Super Computer.

Despite taking the lead against the Black Cats on Sunday (23 April), Carlos Corberan’s side were struck by a late Dennis Cirkin brace, which left them two points off sixth with three matches of their season remaining.

The Super Computer has predicted the Baggies will finish on 67 points, two points off Millwall in sixth place, with Coventry City, Middlesbrough and Luton Town claiming the other three playoff spots.

West Brom

Five-Thiry-Eight have put West Brom’s chances of playing Premier League football next season at a mere 4%.

West Brom’s remaining fixtures come against second-placed Sheffield United on Wednesday (26 April), promotion rivals Norwich City on Saturday (29 April) and Swansea next week (8 May).

Slim chances

The chances of West Brom getting promoted this season took an almighty hit when conceding late on against Sunderland, and considering the tough upcoming fixtures, the 21% chance of reaching the top six seems about right.

On their day, and even against the Black Cats, West Brom were dominant, but without Daryl Dike, they lack any kind of clinical edge in the final third.

The American’s season-ending injury sustained earlier this month is beginning to look more and more devastating as the matches progress, and when playing top opposition such as Sheffield United and Norwich, top-draw players of Dike’s ilk are pivotal.

The positive fact to take into account is that West Brom can limit their rivals’ points totals but beating them in straight head-to-head matches.

However, the four shots on target from 19 total attempts on goal against Sunderland won’t hack it at this stage of the season.

West Brom need to sharpen their tools in front of goal, otherwise they may fall agonisingly short of their playoff dreams.
