Dreadful West Brom injury situation deepens with updates on Cleary and Chalobah

West Bromwich Albion have been hit with further injury pain with the news that Reyes Cleary is out for the season, whilst Nathaniel Chalobah will be touch and go for the climax to the Championship season, as reported by Birmingham Live.

It presents a further headache for head coach Carlos Corberan who has had to repeatedly chop and change in recent weeks due to injuries.

The Baggies suffered a setback in Sunday’s loss to Sunderland and now sit two points outside the playoff places in sixth position with three games to play.

In a seemingly never-ending story, Corberan provided updates on his absentees, including Cleary and Chalobah.

“He suffered a very serious hamstring injury in the game against Derby County and that’s why he has not been involved with the B-team and the first team, said the Spanish coach on the 19-year old attacker,” they wrote.

“Unfortunately with Chalobah the news is not positive. It’s a small, serious injury (ankle ligament damage). He is going to be in a boot for one week from the injury.

“Let’s see how he will react. Normally it’s an injury of around three weeks, but the last week or 10 days is more about the pain management of the player and how the ligament recovers from the injury.”

Finish line in sight

If West Brom can win their final three Championship games, it should be enough to land a shot at the playoffs but it is not guaranteed.

The Baggies can now throw everything at the final stretch with the finish line in sight and if they fall short, the extent of the injury situation will have been a factor.

Nine key players are known to be on the treatment table, with a few of those issues running into next season. It is a problem that all clubs have to contend with, in what is a grueling, 46-game marathon in the English second tier.

Cleary may not have been first option to play but with the likes of Daryl Dike picking up serious issues, the door may have opened slightly for more minutes.

Corberan’s men have performed admirably in recent weeks, pulling themselves back into contention but the test at Bramall Lane will be a significant one, with Sheffield United out to secure automatic promotion.

Norwich City and Swansea City provide the opposition after that, as the regular season comes to its conclusion.
