West Brom attacker Matt Phillips out with Grade 3 rupture, August return on cards – Injury Expert

We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at West Brom...

Matt Phillips appears to be ruled out with a Grade 3 rupture in his quadriceps (group of muscles in front of the thigh), claims Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert reacted to a news story by Birmingham World in early April which claimed that he may not be back for the start of next season as well.

However, he believes that there’s a very good chance that he will be back by August but could very well be missing their pre-season matches and training.

Speaking exclusively with West Brom News about Phillips’ injury, Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and Sports Scientist, said,

“If he’s unable to be fit for the start of next season, his quadriceps injury potentially sounds like a grade 3 rupture.

That would be the most likely explanation based on the extended timeline.

He very well may be ready by August as it stands and the only information reported is that he might face a race for fitness which also means he might not.

The key long-term effect is an increased risk of re-injury.

The 32-year-old last featured for the Baggies in the 4-0 victory against Chesterfield in January and played just 35 minutes of that contest.

He has been a bit-part player in the league this season, making close to half his appearances from the bench as he’s bagged two goals and as many assists.

His contract at the Hawthorns runs out in the summer of 2024 and it remains to be seen if he signs a new deal in the coming months.

In other West Brom news, a Sky Sports pundit is now fearing for Baggies’ promotion question after news emerged that has dealt a huge blow to Carlos Corberan.
