West Brom injury news: Carlos Corberan explains Tom Rogic absence from win v Norwich City

Carlos Corberan has revealed that Tom Rogic has not been fit enough to play more than 15 minutes for West Brom recently due to ongoing fitness issues.

Rogic, 30, hasn’t played more than 32 minutes of a single match for the Baggies since the New Year and sustained a hamstring injury in early March, which he is still feeling the after-effects of.

As reported by Birmingham Live, Corberan shared that Rogic’s fitness had not been in a “normal condition” for the last two months, and this was the reason he was missing from the match day squad in last week’s 2-1 win against Norwich City.

West Brom travel to Swansea City on the final day of the season (Monday, 8 May), sitting just two points off Millwall in sixth position in the Championship table.

“With Rogic, as I’ve told you he’s not been ready for the last two months,” Corberan said.

“He has not been in a normal condition, so he’s just been able to play 10-15 minutes.

“That’s why, at this last period of the competition, it affects us in terms of how many players we have to compete.”

Frustrating

Rogic has always had his fitness issues since arriving at West Brom from Celtic last summer, and his body’s demise this season has been a frustrating sight for fans.

There is no doubting the Australian’s talent in the middle of the park and the technical ability he possesses, but Corberan hasn’t been able to use this at all since arriving at The Hawthorns.

Rogic’s last start was in the highly impressive 3-0 win against Rotherham in December, in which he picked up an assist, but since then, his impact has been limited.

After missing the squad entirely against the Canaries, though, it is unlikely he will feature much, if at all, in the club’s last game of the regular season.

If West Brom manage to qualify for the playoff places, every corner of The Hawthorns will be hoping the 30-year-old can return to action as swiftly as possible.

Rogic is a proven match-winner, but the question is whether his body can hold up long enough to display this.
