West Brom cannot be serious with latest update on sale of home shirts

The absolute nerve of West Brom.

If it wasn’t hard enough for Albion fans to see their team’s faint promotion hopes finally dashed on Monday, the club they support now seems to be taking the mick out of them by finally putting more home shirts up for sale.

In September, West Brom News reported how the Baggies were low on stock for the 2022/23 just weeks into the Championship season. Shortly after that, the blue-and-white-striped kit was sold out for good.

Or so we thought.

On Wednesday (10 May), two days after a defeat to Swansea and results elsewhere meant that West Brom failed to finish in the Championship play-off spots, it was confirmed that more home shirts had gone up for sale.

Albion’s official shop account tweeted that fans need to “act quick” because a “very limited number of adult home shirts” are “back in stock”.

Great. The 2022/23 season is over for West Brom and now they put shirts up for sale instead of trying to flog them a few weeks back when we were still trying to get into the play-offs.

It’s open for speculation on how a magical number of home shirts became available again – did a staff member find an unopened box in the back of the stock room?

That’s fair enough.

But what’s not fair is that the club are trying to fleece fans by charging them full price for them.

On the Albion shop, the adult home kits are on sale for £54.99.

Albion, that.

The only reason that can justify them being sold at that price is that they have magical properties because of their sudden reappearance on the shop shelves. Or because they think that fans will be queuing up to buy the shirt Jake Livermore played his final West Brom game in.

However you look at it, it’s a joke and it’s a desperate, last-ditch attempt to try and make some money off a fanbase who’ve had the mick taken out of them for years.

Please, don’t buy it.

It’s a lovely kit and we understand why fans would want to have it.

But the 2022/23 kit now reeks of failure and the doom to come.

In other West Brom news, Rangers want to sign a forward who the Baggies are happy to sell – presumably for the same price as these home kits.
