West Brom transfer news drops as Rangers want to sign Karlan Grant

Rangers want to sign West Brom forward Karlan Grant, according to Darren Witcoop amid reports that sales will follow at The Hawthorns over the summer.

The Daily Mail previously reported that he could join Dara O’Shea to the exit at The Hawthorns as a consequence of failing to get out of the Championship, with financial pressures forcing the situation.

Grant joined the Baggies from Huddersfield Town in 2020 in a deal said to be worth around £15 million [Sky Sports], with the club ready to listen to offers now.

Witcoop of the Sunday Mirror detailed the apparent interest from Michael Beale’s side on his personal Twitter account: “West Brom will listen to offers for striker Karlan Grant this summer.

“Grant has Championship admirers while Scottish side Rangers have registered an interest.”

West Brom

Significant loss

The attacker had a very disappointing season in the Black Country, registering a meagre three goals in contrast to his tally of 18 Championship goals in the 2021/22 campaign.

That was the kind of form that led to his multi-million switch from the John Smith’s Stadium but now West Brom will make a significant loss on the £15 million fee that was agreed with the Terriers.

Rangers are known to be in the market for a first-choice striker but their budget for a player such as Grant is unlikely to exceed £2-3million. The player may see the appeal in transforming his career north of the border, including the fact he is eligible to play for Scotland but better business for the Baggies could lie closer to home.

With plenty of Championship admirers tracking his progress, it is a league in which the 25-year-old has performed to great effect and the bigger clubs in England’s second tier have the money to make a move happen.
