Chris Lepkowski hints at West Brom ‘discussions’ amid fresh takeover rumours

Former head of media at West Brom Chris Lepkowski has revealed “discussions” have taken place regarding a potential takeover of the club.

The Telegraph’s John Percey has claimed (11 May) that the growing interest in US consortiums acquiring Championship clubs could provide a reason to be positive.

Lepkowski has since reacted on Twitter (11 May) to The Telegraph’s piece and has claimed talks have taken place “closer to home”.

“Interesting piece. The US angle is encouraging, and there have been discussions closer to home,” he wrote.

“Reasonable approaches from US-backed concert parties (led by WBA-supporting individuals) have been abruptly shut down in the past. That can no longer be an option for Lai (& co).”

Uncertainty

There was a lot riding on West Brom making the playoffs, which led to uncertainty itself. We all knew the riches of the Premier League would’ve helped the Baggies out. However, we now know where we stand. Change is now desperately required during the off-season.

Guochuan Lai has to listen if there are interested parties. The absent owner needs to relinquish power in the West Midlands. We’ve seen the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Derby, and Wigan suffer in recent years. Albion look like the best bet for the next club to run into difficulties unless something changes.

With the £20million loan also on the agenda, any prospective owner will have a lot to deal with. Lai has driven West Brom into this mess and the fanbase have made themselves heard.

It’s time for the businessman to come out of hiding and rectify the issue which currently engulfs The Hawthorns. This summer could be one of the biggest in recent memory.

In other West Brom news, Rangers want to sign a forward who the Baggies are happy to sell – presumably for the same price as these home kits.
