Finance Expert reacts to new £900m+ deal that can benefit West Brom

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive West Brom columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns...

Dan Plumley has insisted that West Brom have been given some positive news with the EFL agreeing a new TV deal with Sky worth over £900million.

The finance expert admitted that it’s great news for the club involved in the EFL, as it can help close to gigantic gap to the Premier League.

West Brom and their finances have been under the spotlight for years now, and with parachute payments set to come to an end, every little will help.

“Absolutely,” he exclusively told West Brom News.

“We’ve not seen the breakdown of payments per club or what it is going to look like in terms of solidarity payments and bonus payments, but on the face of it, it is a significant uplift and 46% for Championship clubs in general is a significant uplift on the previous deal.

On the face of it, on paper, a really good deal for the football league in general, but of course then the clubs that are in those divisions.

That may go a long way to close the gap between the Premier League and the Championship, which can only be seen as a good thing.”

This is certainly good news, and hopefully, it will lead to a bigger windfall for each club in the football league.

It has been long up for discussion that the gap is way too big, and West Brom will be hoping to benefit from the deal with clubs said to be 46% better off.
