West Brom transfer news as £4m striker Jerry Yates eyed amid fellow Championship interest

West Brom are one of five clubs who want to sign Blackpool striker Jerry Yates this summer, according to The Sun.

Yates, 26, netted 14 Championship goals last season and is now valued at £4million following the Tangerines’ relegation to League One.

The Sun have reported that the Baggies, Luton Town, Coventry City, Bristol City and Ipswich have eye shown interest in the hotshot, with an unnamed club already having a bid of £2.5million rejected.

The striker has 12 months remaining on his contract at Bloomfield Road, but the club do have the option to extend this by a year.

Options needed

With Karlan Grant looking likely to leave The Hawthorns this summer and Daryl Dike on the sidelines for the foreseeable future, West Brom are desperately in need of options in the attacking third.

Without these two strikers, the club only possess Brandon Thomas-Asante as an option to lead the line, a glaring weakness in their squad if they realistically want to challenge for Championship promotion next term.

The one major problem is the financial issues the club find themselves in, and this could well leave them on the back foot in their race to sign Yates.

The Daily Mail (29 April) previously reported that the Baggies are set to launch an immediate fire sale of first-team players after their failure to reach the playoffs, so incomings are likely to be scarce this summer.

Also, with one of Luton or Coventry set to seal promotion to the Premier League, these clubs suddenly look far more appetising prospects than West Brom.
