Done deal: Ted Cann wins West Brom contract extension as teammates axed

West Brom have announced their retained and released lists after the conclusion of the 2022/23 season.

The club have confirmed that goalkeeper Ted Cann has signed a one-year extension to his current contract at The Hawthorns.

The Albion also confirmed that senior trio Jake Livermore, Tom Rogic and Kean Bryan are on their way out.

“The Baggies are in talks with first-team defender Erik Pieters over a new deal, while goalkeeper Ted Cann has earned a one-year extension to his current contract, which now runs until June 2024,” according to the official West Brom website.

“But three senior players will be leaving The Hawthorns this summer. Long-serving club captain Jake Livermore departs following six-and-a-half years in B71, and he said goodbye to Baggies fans earlier this month via an open letter.

“Tom Rogic and Kean Bryan are also leaving the football club.”

Summer shake-up begins

Like countless clubs within and outside of the Championship, West Brom are preparing for a major shake-up this summer.

The Baggies certainly did themselves proud under Carlos Corberan, who turned the tides at The Hawthorns to turn the club into one capable of competing with the best teams in the division.

Ultimately they fell short, but the manager will want to use the most recent campaign as a stepping stone for next season, where promotion to the Premier League will be top of the agenda.

The retained and released lists won’t exactly have come as a surprise to the players involved, but it will still take time for club legend Livermore to think of life away from West Brom.

Due to injuries and a lack of form, the exits of Rogic and Bryan won’t come as a major shock to supporters, but they will still be sad to see the back of the duo.

Young shot-stopper Cann meanwhile will be overjoyed with his extended stay at The Hawthorns.

In other West Brom news, Xu Ke has refused to answer Baggies shareholders in the latest new twist in the saga.
