Hope emerges Guochuan Lai will sell West Brom in Roman Abramovich-esque forced exit after government update

Hope has emerged for West Brom group Action for Albion (AFA) in their efforts to get rid of controlling shareholder Guochuan Lai.

Earlier this week it was revealed that a new government-led independent regulator will include an option for retrospective action against any club ownership if mismanagement is detected.

AFA hope the precedent set by the recent forced-through sale of Premier League club Chelsea from Russian owner Roman Abramovich may help bring change at the Albion.

“The group were given fresh hope this week when it was revealed a new government-led independent regulator, expected to be pushed through as legislation, will include an option for retrospective action against any club ownership if mismanagement is detected,” according to the Express & Star.

“AFA, who are working closely with West Bromwich East MP Nicola Richards and her office, say they ‘fully endorse’ that approach. They hope a precedent set – albeit in different circumstances – by the forced-through sale of Chelsea from Roman Abramovich may help bring change at The Hawthorns.”

Welcome news

It really is a messy situation ongoing at The Hawthorns, with one negative story after the other going on behind the scenes.

But the update regarding the government-led independent regulator is a very positive one, with that news welcomed by AFA and all West Brom supporters given their constant struggles with the board this season.

Fans have done their part with protests, but it seems that things will now only change due to this latest update.

Unfortunately for Lai and the other people associated with the Albion who have come under fire from fans, Baggies supporters will not back down anytime soon, with their efforts to rid unwanted personnel perhaps going even further as opposed to fading away.

The sooner this issue is dealt with, the sooner Carlos Corberan can work with his squad without any distractions as the club look to secure promotion back to the Premier League as soon as possible.

In other West Brom news, Chris Lepkowski believes Brian Tevreden has an “axe to grind” with Ron Gourlay after he heavily criticised the Albion CEO for the job he undertook at Reading.
