West Brom have congratulated Darren Moore after the former Albion boss won promotion to the Championship at Sheffield Wednesday on Monday.

Josh Windass' late goal at the end of extra time earned Wednesday a 1-0 win over Barnsley in the League One play-off final at Wembley (29 May), securing the Owls' spot in the Championship for next season.

It's no doubt the biggest achievement of Moore's managerial career to date and West Brom, who sacked Moore in 2019, took to Twitter to pay tribute to their former manager and defender.

The tweet said: "Congratulations to Darren Moore and Sheffield Wednesday on their promotion to the SkyBet Championship!"

"We'll see you next season, Mooro!"

Although it was a game marred by VAR controversy with Barnsley feeling they should have had a penalty and that Adam Phillips shouldn't have been sent off, Albion fans across the Black Country and beyond are buzzing for Big Dave.

Whether or not you agreed with the controversial decision to sack Moore, 49, in March 2019, West Brom fans adore their club's former centre-back and will always wish him the best.

There may be two games next season where Baggies fans don't want Moore to come out on top but it'll be a great occasion nonetheless when Carlos Corberan's men go to Hillsborough and Moore brings his play-off winners to The Hawthorns.

Next season's Championship season is looking to be quite a tasty one.

Southampton, Leeds, Leicester, Ipswich and Sheffield Wednesday are joining a league packed with big clubs such as the Baggies, Watford, Norwich, Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Blackburn.

You could argue that there are bigger clubs in the Championship these days than there are in the Premier League.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, for Sheffield Wednesday fans, maybe), all the clubs in the second tier deserve to be there and the likes of Brentford, Bournemouth and Luton have all run better than the likes of Albion, Leeds, Watford and Southampton in recent years.
